UNESCO ICM is running the Martial Arts Open School in four countries from June to November. In 2017, the 1st Martial Arts Open School was held in countries where schools had no physical education classes, and it was highly acclaimed by the participants for its contributions in improving students' strength, promoting community spirit, and improving people's awareness of martial arts.

UNESCO ICM('Centre') holds the Martial Arts Open School in four countries- Canada, Jordan, Kenya, and Kyrgyzstan-from June to November 2018. This project was initiated with aims to attract people's attention in martial arts, promote community spirit among participants, and develop relationships for cooperation. Under this project, the Centre selects martial arts instructors who are capable of leading the class in English or local languages, has them teach martial arts to local youth and women, and organizes volunteer activities and cultural experience for schools and local communities.

The Martial Arts Open School in Kenya is running a six-week program in Nairobi West from June 25th to August 3rd. One hundred and twenty students aged 13–17 in Sunshine Secondary school are learning African Kenpo. The Martial Arts Open School  in Jordan is teaching 100 students aged 13–17 who are enrolled in Zahran Boys School and Zain Alsharaf Girls School in Amman for six weeks from July 9th to August 17th. As requested by the schools, they are learning Taekwondo from Korean instructors. In the same period, the Martial Arts Open School in Kyrgyzstan will take place for 100 students aged 15–18 and 10 adults from Chon Jargylchak High School in Kichi Jargylchak. Likewise, they are learning Taekwondo from Korean instructors as per the school's request.

Martial Arts Open School in Canada will take place at the Korean Culture Center in Canada and the Ottawa City Hall with 20 adults for ten weeks from September 10th to November 16th. The participants will be learning Taekkyeon, a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage.

Last year, the Martial Arts Open School was offered in Cambodia and Nepal for four weeks from November 13th to December 8th, and in Kenya from November 22nd to December 19th. Running this program in Cambodia, Nepal, and Kenya where schools had no physical education classes was significant in that it contributed to improving students' strength, promoting community spirit, and improving people's awareness in martial arts. A participant in Cambodia spoke favorably of this program as the youth received, though for a short time, physical education that would otherwise not have been available. The students in Nepal and Kenya wished that the class had lasted longer.

The Centre plans to continue offering projects designed to encourage social development and engagement of martial arts instructors and practitioners, and help them understand the values of peace and reconciliation.
