 The 2018 International Martial Arts Academic Seminar will be hostedon November 30 at the crystal ballroom of The Base Hotel in Chungju-si, Chungcheongbuk-do. Renowned scholars from home and abroad are scheduled to make presentations under the theme Meaning and role of martial arts in modern society.

UNESCO ICM will present the 2018 International Martial Arts Academic Seminar on November 30 at the crystal ballroom of The Base Hotel in Chungju-si, Chungcheongbuk-do.


This seminar themed upon “Meaning and role of martial arts in modern society” will be attended by presenters such as Finn BERGGREN, principal of Gerlev Sports Academy in Denmark; Andreas NIEHAUS, professor of Languages and Cultures of Ghent University in Belgium; Alex CHANNON, professor of Physical Education and Sports in University of Brighton in the UK; and Na Yeong-il, professor of Seoul National University in South Korea.


The seminar is held to initiate active discussion in thepreservation and succession of martial arts, cultural values, to contribute inyouth development andengagement, and to provide a platform for exchanging and sharing expertise and information on martial arts. In 2017, UNESCO ICM hosted the first International Martial Arts Academic Seminar themed upon youth development and promotion of women’s social activity through martial arts.
