Title [Centre News] 2nd African Regional Martial Arts Congress: Cultural Unity in African Self-Defe

ICM and Ghana National Commission for UNESCO will be hosting the 2nd African Regional Martial Arts Congress on 25 and 26 September at Accra, Republic of Ghana. Martial arts organizations, scholars, and UNESCO and governmental organizations from West African countries  congress will encourage discussions on the historical background of the self-defense tradition, and the status, role, challenges of martial arts in Africa.

 

ICM and Ghana National Commission for UNESCO will be hosting the 2nd African Regional Martial Arts Congress on 25 and 26 September at Accra, Republic of Ghana. The very first of its kind was hosted last year in Kenya, centering around East African countries. 2019 marks its second year and participants will be martial arts organizations, scholars, and UNESCO and governmental organizations from West African countries.

 

Under the theme ‘Cultural Unity in African Self-Defense Traditions,’ the congress will encourage discussions on the historical background of the self-defense tradition, and the status, role, challenges of martial arts in Africa. A group session will allow martial arts stakeholders in West Africa to exchange and share issues related to martial arts, and provide a platform for cooperation.

 

Since 2018, ICM has been hosting the African Regional Martial Arts Congress, with aim to establish grounds for the development of martial arts, increase understanding on the role of martial arts, and increase youth participation.
