Last year, marked the fourth anniversary of MARIE and, due to the spread of the coronavirus, the initiative was implemented online. In accordance with the theme of the year ?Inclusive Martial Arts,? over a period of ten weeks participants attended lectures on theories and one-on-one thesis guidance sessions which were held by prestigious Korean professors. They successfully made thesis presentations face-to-face at the 2021 ICM International Martial Arts Academic Seminar and, ultimately, their individual capacity as scholars improved. ICM conducts studies that delve into the intrinsic values of martial arts with global martial arts leaders, experts and scholars, and it implements a wide range of projects to spread these values. Through the Martial Arts Research Initiative for Experts (MARIE), ICM offers global martial arts leaders opportunities to explore the values and social roles of martial arts.
