Founded in 2000, the NGO has made substantial contributions through martial arts education for youths leveraging their “life championship” methodology; operation of martial arts alliances to support other martial arts institutions and train new leaders; and publishing of manuals and guidelines to increase female engagement and empowerment through sports. The prize was given at the African Women Martial Arts Leaders Workshop’s opening ceremony, followed by a talk for participants to learn about best practices in martial arts education and gain lessons from Luta Pela Paz’s experience. To this end, the Centre conducted basic online and literature reviews of 300 martial arts worldwide, and annually studies martial arts by region. Following last year’s report South Asian Martial Arts: Connecting the Past, Present and Future, the ICM did an indepth study of traditional martial arts in Iran and Türkiye (Turkey). By collaborating with martial arts institutions in both countries, the names of martial arts, their origins and histories, training systems, and key techniques were comprehensively researched. ICM reports on world martial arts can be viewed on the Centre’s official website.
