UNESCO ICM Martial Arts Demonstration Team Begins its 2022 Performances

- Promoting global martial arts and cultural experiences as well as mental and physical training for the youth -

The UNESCO ICM Martial Arts Demonstration Team will begin this year’s official performance in May. The martial arts team celebrates 4 years since its establishment. It was designed to stimulate public interest in global martial arts, improve understanding of the values of martial arts and promote ICM.

The martial art team has developed various programs and performances that combine international martial arts including Pencak Silat, Bokator and Capoeira - another martial art recognized as a UNESCO intangible cultural heritage - with Korean traditional martial arts such as Taekkyeon and Taekwondo. This year, new performances featuring Latin dances such as Samba and Salsa will provide a diverse cultural experience for the audience.

Performances will be delivered regularly at ICM as well as at special venues including schools, local festivals and tourist attractions. The team will also focus efforts on promotion on YouTube and other social media platforms by developing unique online content about global martial arts.
