General Information |
Devonshire wrestling is a wrestling style from Devonshire, England. The wrestlers wear straw shin guards and clogs. Kicking each other in the shins is part of the game (Archer 2001: 735). There are similarities with Cornish wrestling. |
History/Development |
The sport died out because it was considered unsafe. The Devonshire Wrestling Society states they want to make Devonshire wrestling safe and fair “to see it flourish in modern times”. They gather sources and research to ensure authenticity and make them public on their website (Devonshire Wrestling Society, s.d.). |
